Without a  good protection of the roof, your home may be in jeopardy. There are many things over time that can go wrong with your roof and some of them you may not be aware of. As a roof begins to age and suffer the wear and tear of bad weather it can begin to detonate, and you may not even notice that it is starting to fail until it is too late.

There are a few warning signs that you should be aware of to keep an eye on that all important roof. These items are all things that you should be vigilant about and when you see them, you will know it is time to take a look at getting a new roof.

The Flashing

Go outside when it is raining and take a good look at the flashing around your roof. Do you see any areas where the flashing is damaged? If the water is not dropping off the flashing, it could be backing up into the roof tiles. Good flashing is critical and it is an item that does wear out. Damaged flashing will eventually cause your roof to leak.

Keep an Eye on your Shingles

Go outside and take a good look at your roof. Do you see any missing or bent shingles? Do you notice any wear or corners missing? When you start seeing this, you will know your roof is going to need replacing soon.  Water has a knack for finding its way into a structure at the first sign of a bend or wear. Rain, ice, and snow will wear down the shingle and sun damage is also a factor.

Did you spot any missing or broken shingles? It’s a pretty easy assessment and if you spot this you should get a roofer in right away; you just may be able to prevent a problem before it begins. If you find any problem with your shingles, it’s recommended to contact a shingle roof repair company as soon as possible to avoid furter damages.

Ceiling Discolouration

Take the time to go around your whole house and check out the ceilings. Do you notice any discolored spots? Are you seeing small areas that look suspicious? This could be a sign that you have some kind of water leak. Time to get that checked out.

We all know that damp allows mold and algae to build up. If you see any signs of damp and burgeoning mold on the ceiling of any room you know you must act. Mold is one the first sign of a leak and should be taken care of immediately as many molds caused by damp are quite toxic.

Leaky roofs are no picnic; the damage caused to areas you can’t see could be devastating. A leaking roof over the years can damage your roof timbers and mean the whole roof needs to be taken off and completely replaced. Dealing with a leak is not fun but if you keep an eye on your roof and take preventative steps you may be able to head off a whole roof re-do.
